As part of the National Smile Month campaign, we at Glandwr Dental Practice want to promote the importance of good oral health and a healthy smile.
The Oral Health Foundation will be raising awareness of important oral health issues between 16th May and 16th June. Thousands of people rely on oral health for their well-being, and we at Glandwr Dental Practice want you to be part of that solution.
Why Does National Smile Month Take Place?
In order to maintain the teeth of the UK public in peak condition, the Oral Health Foundation provides three key messages. They are:
- Brush your teeth twice a day
- Reduce the amount of sugary food and drinks you consume
- Visit your dentist regularly
For many people, maintaining a healthy smile can be a challenge.
Over the last 40 years, oral health has made significant advancements, but inequalities remain a burden for many people.
By supporting National Smile Month, you will be able to support groups where oral disease is far too common. It’s your chance to reach out to your community during National Smile Month and spread the word about the importance of oral health.
Other Ways You Can Improve Your Oral Health
Floss Regularly – Floss gets between your teeth to remove food particles that are too small for your toothbrush to reach. Don’t be alarmed if you see some blood in your saliva when you start flossing. Flossing regularly will make you less likely to bleed. Don’t just stick your floss between your teeth – you’ll have to scrape off the gunky stuff when you floss.
Give Your Tongue Some Attention – If you don’t clean your tongue, it can harbor all kinds of bacteria, just like your teeth and gums. You can eliminate these bacteria by purchasing a tongue scraper or a toothbrush with a scraper on the back. You will be able to eliminate bacteria and improve your breath with this small accessory. Your mouth will be cleaner if you follow your hygiene routine more closely.
Eat a Nutritious Diet – The saying “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” isn’t just used by paediatricians. Chewing an apple a day can help you clean your teeth and prevent cavities, while also easing the pain of a sweet tooth. You can also keep your gums healthy by eating crunchy vegetables like carrots and celery. An organic diet consisting of fruits, vegetables, grains, chicken, and fish will benefit not just your dental health, but your overall health as well.
Use an Antibacterial Mouthwash – If you incorporate mouthwash into your daily dental health routine, you can protect your mouth against bacteria. You should also use mouthwash at different times of the day than when you brush, as this is far more effective.
We can all do our very best to achieve great dental health and live in a world in which everyone has a healthy mouth and smile.
