Some Dentists Have Worked in One or Two Places

Dr Annest Jones has worked in rather more.

Before she joined Glandwr Dental Practice in Penrhyndeudraeth, Annest had treated patients in some of the most remote communities on the planet — flying with the Queensland Flying Doctors in Australia to deliver care to people with no other way to access a dentist. She’d worked as a school and community dentist in Cairns. She’d completed specialist training in the Maxillofacial Department at Ysbyty Gwynedd and Glan Clwyd hospitals. She’d spent six months embedded with the Community Dental Service in North Wales.

And then she came home — to the place she grew up, the language she grew up speaking, and the community she’s been looking after ever since.

Who Is Dr Annest Jones?

Annest is originally from Bontnewydd, just outside Caernarfon, and attended Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen before going on to study dentistry at Cardiff University, graduating in 2007. After completing her vocational training in Cardiff, she headed to Australia — where she spent time working for Queensland Health as a dentist serving remote and rural communities, including work alongside the Flying Doctors in Cairns.

After that came a year of travel across Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Samoa, and South America — before she returned to North Wales in 2009, completed her hospital training in maxillofacial surgery, and spent further time with the Community Dental Service before settling into the kind of practice-based dentistry she does today.

It’s a career that has taken her far beyond what most patients might expect from their local dentist. Which, in the end, is exactly what makes her so good at her job.

The Dentist Who Chose to Come Back

Something is telling about a dentist who has seen the world, worked in some of the most extraordinary clinical settings imaginable — and chose North Wales.

Annest’s background in community and hospital dentistry means she has treated patients across the full spectrum of need — from those with complex medical histories to those who simply haven’t been to the dentist in a very long time and don’t quite know how to start. She has worked in environments where patient trust has to be built quickly and carefully, where the reassurance a clinician offers is as important as the clinical skill they bring.

That experience comes with her into every appointment at Glandwr.

Dentistry for Nervous Patients in North Wales

Dental anxiety is one of the most common reasons people put off seeing a dentist — and one of the most understandable. Whether it stems from a difficult experience in the past or simply the unknown, it is something that Annest encounters regularly and treats with the patience it deserves.

If you have been avoiding the dentist in North Wales because of nerves, Annest’s approach is one that many anxious patients find reassuring: calm, clear, and without any pressure. She takes the time to explain what’s happening and why, making sure patients are never left wondering. Nothing happens without your full understanding and agreement.

For patients who need additional support, sedation is also available at Glandwr for suitable cases — allowing you to receive the treatment you need in a deeply relaxed state. Eligibility and suitability are assessed on an individual basis.

General Dentistry in Penrhyndeudraeth

General dentistry is, in many ways, the foundation of everything else. It’s the regular check-up that catches the small problem before it becomes a large one. It’s the filling done well, the gum health maintained, the restoration that means a tooth doesn’t need to come out. It is, in the end, the reason most people come to see a dentist in North Wales — and it’s what Annest does, day in and day out, with the kind of quiet expertise that comes from years of varied clinical experience.

If you’re looking for a general dentist in Penrhyndeudraeth — whether you’re new to the area, new to private dentistry, or simply looking for a change — Annest would be delighted to see you.

Private Dental Care in North Wales: What Glandwr Offers

At Glandwr, private dental care means more than shorter waiting times. It means access to a dentist who has the time to actually listen — to your concerns, your history, and what matters to you about your smile and your health.

Annest’s breadth of experience means she is well-placed to handle a wide range of general dental needs and to refer within Glandwr’s expert team when specialist care is required. Whether it’s a routine check-up, restorative work, or treatment for an anxious patient who just needs to feel safe in the chair — she’s here.
